Let’s be honest, New Orleans in July is hot
However, airfare and hotel rates are the cheapest this time of year, so pack your light clothing and plan a trip. There typically aren’t as many tourists in the summer months, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty going on! Here’s a list of a few of our favorite festivals and events happening in New Orleans in the steamy month of July!

1. Independence Day French Quarter Fireworks
The Independence Day “Go 4th on the River” celebration features patriotic music and dueling fireworks barges on the Mississippi River. There's live music at Spanish Plaza from noon to 9pm, when fireworks start. Admission to this event is free!
ESSENCE Festival is a celebration of contemporary African American music and culture which features the best of R&B, hip-hop, jazz and more. Held over Fourth of July weekend at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, this three-day party combines powerful music performances with inspirational speakers and provocative conversations about race, gender, culture, and art.
3. San Fermin en Nueva Orleans
Ever dreamt of attending the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona? Here's your chance! Well, sort of. The San Fermin en Nueva Orleans is a more local (and safer) alternative to the Spanish festival. To read more about this festive occasion, click here!

Named after the Duke of Orléans, La Nouvelle-Orléans, or New Orleans, stands unique among all American cities and is the most Francophone city in the United States.
