One of our main goals at Astrid Solo Travel Advisor is to empower solo travelers worldwide to move through the world feeling safe, confident, inspired and enlightened. It’s in our DNA to promote cultural awareness along the way, and one of the ways we do that is through an organization we are incredibly proud to support, Kiva.

“Beyond charity”

This “microlending” site allows anyone, anywhere to help alleviate global poverty and empower entrepreneurs through loans as small as $25. The key is, when you give to Kiva, you’re not making a donation, you are making a loan. You are loaning your money to someone in another part of the world who is making an honest effort to free themselves from the grip of poverty. Lending to Kiva is a small act that can make a monumental difference in someone else’s life.

We at Astrid Solo Travel Advisor believe that it is important gain awareness of cultures outside of our own, and attempt to understand both our differences and similarities. At first glance, it may seem as if we have little in common with someone from across the world with a different culture, different background, different language and different beliefs, but when you take a closer look, we often find that we are much more alike than we thought. Kiva is showing us that dreams and ambition are cross-cultural. People everywhere are trying to make a difference, no matter how small it may seem.
