Where to Get the Best Authentic Pizza in New Orleans

Best Authentic Pizza in New Orleans.jpeg

Astrid may be the one in Italy right now, but that doesn't mean she gets to enjoy all of the authentic Italian food!

Ancora Pizzeria and Salumeria, located on Freret Street in Uptown, offers authentic Neapolitan pizzas and house-made salumi. Ancora's pizzas are baked in an oven hand-crafted with materials from Mt. Vesuvius, imported directly from Naples.

Sticking true to Vera Pizza Neapoletana tradition, Ancora bakes their pizzas directly on the oven floor, keeping the oven between 750-850 degrees. The oven cooks pizza in 45-90 seconds.

In order to provide delicious products, Ancora uses the freshest ingredients. All ingredients come directly from local New Orleans' markets or are imported from Naples. The Quattro Formaggio pizza is topped with cheeses from St. James Cheese Company and all meat toppings are cured in-house in the restaurant's custom curing room. Ancora likes to keep their pizza's interesting, whether it's Sanguinaccio, cured blood sausage, or lardo for a pizza topping.

Open Dining, Rustic Feel

While the restaurant itself is expansive, with high ceilings and large windows, that doesn't mean it isn't cozy and inviting. With an open dining room with a rustic feel, both solo diners and groups alike will enjoy a relaxed and intimate dining experience. Diners have views of the restaurant's gorgeous hand-crafted pizza oven and in-house curing room. With a laid back ambiance and a stellar staff, Ancora is an Uptown must.

Authentic Flavor and Flare

In addition to pizza, Ancora offers several anti pizza items, including a mouthwatering arancini that will make you nostalgic for Italy. The anti-pizza plate and bruschetta also came highly recommended.

Ancora offers a great selection of wines entirely from the Campania region of Southern Italy, the birthplace of pizza. They also create hand-crafted cocktails, offer seasonal Italian sodas, and have a changing beer menu filled with the best local beers. If you're looking for a truly authentic experience, they also offer a delicious limoncello!

Ancora offers the first truly authentic Neapolitan pizza in New Orleans, using a style that is hundreds of years old, making you question whether you're in Italy or Uptown.
