Big changes are coming to New Orleans' Louis Armstrong International Airport!
Construction began in early 2016 and a new 35-gate terminal is expected to open February 1, 2019. (Update: estimated completion will likely be mid-late 2019). With increased service via 17 airlines and 59 non-stop destinations, including 7 international destinations, MSY was ready for a expansion!
Bringing the New Orleans Airport into the Modern Era
The idea is to replace the aging terminal, which dates to 1959, with an airport more in line with modern travel and passenger expectations. Two concourses with a total of 35 gates will be behind a single consolidated checkpoint, rather than the existing disconnected concourses with separate checkpoints.
The modern glass terminal was designed by a team that included renowned Argentinian architect Cesar Pelli. The project also includes a 2,190-car parking garage, a central utility plant and a ground transportation staging area.
Unlike now, nearly all of the stores and restaurants will be located behind security, where passengers spend most of their time and money. The new terminal will be home to a fresh lineup of high-profile local restaurants and national chains, including:
Leah's Kitchen, developed by Edgar "Dooky" Chase IV in honor of his grandmother, Leah Chase.
Folse Market, by Chef John Folse featuring seafood, po'boys, charcuterie, coffee and wine.
Bar Sazerac, with New Orleans-style cocktails
Heritage School of Music Stage and Wine Bar, with live music produced in partnership with the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation.
NOLA Food Expo, a food hall featuring MoPho chef Michael Gulotta, Dook's Burgers & Brews and Ye Olde College Inn.
Pizza Domenica, bringing together chefs John Besh and Alon Shaya
Johnny Sanchez by chefs John Besh and Aaron Sanchez
Angelo Brocato, the century-old gelato brand
Mondo, by Chef Susan Spicer, modeled after her Lakeview global cuisine spot
Cure cocktails by mixologist Neal Bodenheimer.

We are excited to see New Orleans reach the next level in the tourism industry, and this new airport terminal is a step in the right direction. This expansion in addition to the direct flights to and from Europe, are promising signs for our city!
